SCG Chemicals Co., Ltd.

 

 

SCG Chemicals (SCG-Chem) is a subsidiary of SCG and is one of SCG’s 3 core businesses consisting of Chemicals, Paper and Cement-Building Materials. SCG embarked upon the chemicals business in 1989. At present, SCG Chemicals manufactures and supplies a full range of petrochemical products ranging from upstream petrochemicals such as Olefins, intermediate petrochemicals such as Styrene Monomer, PTA, and MMA, to downstream petrochemicals such as Polyethylene, Polypropylene, Polyvinyl Chloride, and Polystyrene resins.

 

SCG Chemicals is now one of the largest integrated petrochemical companies in Thailand and a key industry leader in the Asia-Pacific region.  Widely accepted for its quality products as well as excellent management and operational process, SCG Chemicals has entered into joint venture deals with a number of the world’s leading chemicals firms including The Dow Chemical Company of USA, Mitsui Chemicals and Mitsubishi Rayon of Japan.

 

Having been exporting to more than 100 countries from production bases in Thailand, Vietnam and Indonesia, SCG Chemicals has sales offices in China, Vietnam, Myanmar, Indonesia, the Philippines and UAE.

 

 

 

 

 

The following are the three SCG-Chem subsidiaries where ChEPS students have been interned:

 

 

• Rayong Olefins Co., Ltd. is a subsidiary of SCG Chemicals and is a major producer of upstream petrochemicals mainly used as feedstock for Polyethylene (PE) and Polypropylene (PP) resins. Production was commenced in 1999. This upstream manufacturing has turned Siam Cement Group into one of the leading petrochemical players in Thailand and in Asia - Pacific.

 

• Thai Polyethylene Co., Ltd., Thai Polyethylene (1993) Co., Ltd., Thai Polypropylene Co., Ltd. and Thai Polypropylene (1994) Co., Ltd., a Group of polyolefins manufacturers wholly owned by Cementhai Chemicals Co., Ltd., produce several categories of high quality polyethylene and polypropylene resins, raw materials widely used in plastic industry.

 

• Siam Mitsui PTA Co., Ltd. was established upon cooperation of Cementhai Chemicals Co., Ltd. and Mitsui Chemicals, Inc. of Japan for producing Purified Terephthalic Acid (PTA) which is used as raw material supplying the pet bottle and polyester industry. Because the Company utilizes state-of-the-art and highly efficient technology of Mitsui Chemical Inc. of Japan as the production process of PTA. The process is widely accepted by most polyester producers in Asia as consitent and high quality products. Siam Mitsui PTA thus offers products of which quality complies with customers requirements, which can be consequently used to produce crystal clear PET bottles and non-flaw polyester fiber.

 

SCG-Chem is the sole sponsor of IR-ChEPS, in which a selected number of students work on an industrial research project for 12 months during their second year.  IR-ChEPS provides an added benefit to SCG-Chem because it allows more in-depth and complex research problems to be tackled due to much longer project duration.
